Optimaliteitstheorie en fonologische opaakheid (meer in het bijzonder prosodische opaciteit).
Consonantduur in het Nederlands, tegen de achtergrond van de modellering van ambisyllabiciteit in verschillende fonologische modellen.
Mogelijke crosslinguïstische coronale contrasten, met bijzondere aandacht voor het Pools, en hoe deze te representeren in standaard kenmerktheorieën.

ONDERZOEKSPROJECTEN:
Proust en de historische avant-garde
Het werk van de Franse schrijver Marcel Proust (1871-1922), hoewel de internationale literatuurwetenschap het bij de beweging van het modernisme onderbrengt, wordt dikwijls met het impressionisme in verband gebracht. Proust (zo vertelt men) is een literaire impressionist, of een impressionistische modernist, en men denkt bij het lezen van zijn werk aan schilderijen van o.a. Manet, Monet enz. Deze tekstinterpretatie is volgens ons het gevolg van een misverstand en moet worden herzien. Proust is de tijdgenoot van het futurisme, het dadaïsme, het opkomende surrealisme. Dit andere modernisme, of beter gezegd: die andere vorm van moderniteit (modernité bij Baudelaire) staat centraal in ons onderzoek. Onderzoeksobjecten zijn: de ready-made, het ‘alles is kunst’ principe en Proustiaanse transfiguration of the commonplace (Danto).

ONDERZOEKSPROJECTEN:
Proefschrift “Fast Speech Phonology: The Cases of French and Dutch”. Het project bestudeert twee gevallen van snelle spraak: klinkerreductie in het Nederlands en schwa-deletie in het Frans. Voor beide processen wordt onderzocht, door middel van literatuuronderzoek en het gebruik van nieuwe empirische gegevens, welke de conditionerende factor is en hoe ze in de hedendaagse fonologische modellen (en met name in dat van de Optimaliteitstheorie) vorm gegeven moeten worden. Voor het Frans wordt hierbij voor de gegevens i.s.m. de Université de Paris X Nanterre gebruik gemaakt van het corpus Phonologie du Français Contemporain (PFC).

Metrische fonologie en Optimaliteitstheorie
Experimenteel onderzoek op fonologische aspecten van (zowel eerste als tweede) taalverwerving.
Invloed van de moedertaal bij de tweede taalverwerving (nasalisatie, diftongering, klinkerverlenging en klinkerreductie, accentuering en ritme in de productie van Nederlandstalige leerders van het Frans als tweede taal).
